These include fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grain breads such as white bread, etc.
·        Fibres- Proper digestion is essential for keeping diabetes in check. Fibre foods help a lot in this regard. They are also known for lowering the risk of heart diseases. Blood sugar levels are also kept in control with their help. Vegetables, wheat bran, nuts, fruits and legumes are a few examples of high fibre foods.
·        Fats- AS surprising as it may be, fats are actually needed for a body to function properly. Saturated fats are harmful. Healthy fats are helpful. These are mainly monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. They help in lowering the cholesterol level. Too much of fats, however, is never good for health. Almonds, olive oils, pecans, walnuts, and avocados are a few sources of these healthy fats. They can be consumed in moderate amounts.
·        Fish- Fish is rich in protein. Diabetics should choose fish over beef, pork, mutton or lamb. In fact, they should have fish at least twice a week. Tuna and salmon are some great choices. They have a less total fat and some are even rich in omega 2 fatty acids. Fishes with high level of mercury such as mackerel or swordfish are a strict no-no!
